“My wedding venue includes DJ included in the price” or “I have to use the venue’s DJ” are both phrases I encounter. But why would one DJ or supplier be perfect for every kind of supplier? I don’t even try to be the best wedding DJ for every couple. I’m perfect for those with whom I share a connection.
When planning your wedding, you might be tempted to choose the venue’s in-house DJ or a specified agency. I understand this, they have probably seen some poor examples! However, this approach might not always be the best option for you.
The idea of having a DJ or Master of Ceremonies included in your wedding venue package may seem appealing at first. It appears to be a convenient and cost-effective solution. However, it’s important to remember that nothing is truly free. The venue is likely including the cost for the DJ as part of their deal. They’re also taking a cut for administrative costs and working with a local agency or resident who will also take another piece of the remaining fee. This means that the actual DJ you get might not be the best fit for your wedding, and they may be at the lower end of the pricing spectrum.
Do Your Research to Find the Perfect Wedding DJ
Sometimes the only DJ available, especially on busy dates, is not one who necessarily has much experience with the venue, or even being a wedding DJ. Sometimes it’s a hobbyist who only DJs occasionally. Remember, I have worked in the wedding industry for over a decade, I know how this works. I have seen desperate searches for DJs to cover weddings at the last minute.
So, what can you do to ensure that you get a DJ who’s the perfect fit for your big day? For starters, it’s important to do your research and find someone who aligns with your vibe and style. Formal black tie might not be appropriate for your festival style. Similarly, my bright orange suit isn’t for those who want something a little less distracting. Don’t worry I have a style for every occasion!
If You Must Choose the Venue’s DJ, Insist on Knowing the Details
But if you’re set on using the venue’s DJ option, at the very least, insist on knowing the name of the DJ. Contact them before you book the service. You should treat this like any other job interview and ask questions to ensure they’re the right fit for you. Ask if they’ve worked at the venue before. Have they done lots of similar weddings? How would they describe their DJ style? Make sure that any pictures you see are of the actual setup that will be provided. It’s also important to ask about backup equipment. Don’t Be Afraid to Push Back
If the venue has a single preferred DJ and insists that you use them, don’t be afraid to push back. Remember that this is your big day, and you should be able to choose a DJ who’s the perfect fit for you, not the venue. Will the venue guarantee your satisfaction? A refund won’t make your most important day better.

Your DJ/host is a massive part of the success of your day, so it’s important to choose someone who’s the right fit for you and your partner.
